Project: Kaduna Abuja Highway

Approaches to Funding Agencies

The Kaduna-Abuja Highway is a key 200-kilometer transport route linking Nigeria’s capital to Kaduna, essential for trade, mobility, and regional integration. Initially awarded to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc in 2017, the road’s reconstruction faced delays due to funding issues, expanded scope, and security concerns. The contract, originally budgeted at ?155.7 billion, ballooned to ?1.5 trillion before being terminated in November 2024 due to non-compliance. The government is now pursuing new contractors and improved oversight mechanisms. Once completed, the project is expected to enhance road safety, stimulate economic activity, and generate employment, reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to efficient infrastructure development.
