Project: Bunyole Institute – Model School Assurance

Project Information

Description

This project will implement the full PHC Service at Bunyole Institute in Masisi, DR Congo. School leadership, teachers, parents and pupils will be invited to participate through appropriate channels, contributing concerns, questions, evidence and suggestions. The implementation will demonstrate how a school can maintain a transparent, continuously updated record of its needs, decisions, actions, funding and results.

Objectives

Establish a functioning PHC Community Assurance Service at Bunyole Institute, enabling meaningful participation by the school community and transparent reporting to sponsors. Develop and document two reusable PHC implementation templates: 1. Existing schools seeking improvement and continuing assurance. 2. New-build schools requiring assurance from concept through construction and operation.

Background

In September 2026, humanitarian practitioner Blaise Rushikama reported difficult conditions at Bunyole Institute, including basic classrooms and limited educational resources, alongside committed teachers and pupils. His observations prompted the proposal to use Bunyole as a demonstration school for PHC Community Assurance, subject to agreement with the school and initial sponsorship.

Impact Summary

A working school assurance system that helps the community identify priorities, supports informed funding decisions and provides continuing evidence of progress. The wider intended impact is a tested and adaptable PHC implementation model for existing and new-build schools, enabling sponsors and communities to support and monitor education projects at scale.
