Project:
369 - OPEN DWP - Social Benefits
Description:
This concern addresses the issue of confusing and potentially distressing communications from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Universal Credit (UC) systems. A recent incident involved a system alert regarding a claimant's partner receiving a State Pension, despite the pension already being factored into the household's UC calculation, resulting in a zero UC payment. Such communications can appear careless and poorly timed, exacerbating financial stress for claimants. The broader issue is that official messages may lack empathy and clarity, leading to confusion and anxiety.
Desired Outcome:
To improve the clarity and empathy of communications from DWP and UC systems, ensuring that messages are timely, accurate, and considerate of the claimant's circumstances.
What Could Go Wrong:
If unmanaged, continued confusing communications could lead to increased claimant distress, reduced trust in the system, and potential financial hardship due to misunderstandings.
Current Situation:
Claimants are receiving confusing alerts from UC systems, such as notifications about pensions already applied to their calculations, causing unnecessary distress.
Action Strategy:
Gather similar experiences from other claimants to identify patterns and advocate for improved communication strategies that are clear, empathetic, and supportive.

"Our records show that Clare Winter is getting:
State Pension
If you think this is wrong
If Clare Winter no longer gets this benefit they should contact the office they claimed it from. Tell them Clare Winter is now getting Universal Credit and to update their records."
Please pass this on to the team of idiots who are party to the development, approval and deployment of such bilge.

Well, to start with YES this is BLOODY WRONG. The fact that in a partnership (marriage) one of the parties receiving their 'personal' pension should offset against a joint claim for UC, reducing it to ZERO is ridiculous. And the fact that an ALERT can come in after two instances of that reduced (ZERO) payment is STUPID beyond words.
Do you IDIOTS not understand the impact of such an alert? -and here as I'm typing this, I'm reading on the screen
"Threatening or abusive messages will not be accepted and may result in further action being taken," - I am now wondering about the origin of that rhetoric on the page.
Do we have CHIMPANZEES running this system? Maybe the chief Chimp is the one in the Chelmsford Jobcentre Manager's office. The one who can't even be bothered to have a 20 minute meeting with a claimant with a good idea.

I'm currently writing a letter to 'The (anonymous) Manager' of Chelmsford Job Centre to address their callous indifference to the claimants (human beings) on the UC register. One suggestion in that letter will be that they resign and make way for a more interested government primate to run the office instead.
