Project:
467
Description:
Homicide levels have fallen overall, but domestic homicide and lethal violence against women and girls remain a serious governance and safeguarding concern.
Desired Outcome:
Systematic prevention of domestic homicide through better threat assessment, earlier intervention and stronger protection for high-risk victims.
What Could Go Wrong:
Warning signs may be missed, high-risk perpetrators may not be contained and deaths may remain preventable only in hindsight.
Current Situation:
ONS recorded 522 homicide victims in year ending March 2025, including 111 domestic homicides; 75 of the domestic homicide victims were women and 67 victims were killed by a partner or ex-partner.
Action Strategy:
Strengthen domestic homicide prevention, use multi-agency high-risk review, act on stalking and coercive-control indicators and improve perpetrator management.
